If only I had one for each ear!

Wendy: You know, I almost stayed home from work today - thinking that today was THE day - then I read your comment and looked at pics on the web and realized this chrysalis still had work to do.

I've resisted bringing it inside - don't want to mess with it too much - it's such a joy to witness! There is a big spider on the shed nearby, though. I took some pics to try and figure out what type it is, but spiders are hard to ID!

Susan: Yes! It's so neat to see how it is changing from day to day.

e4: So what types of chrysalises do you have? Do tell!

Naturewoman: It is fun - not something you get to see everyday.

Madcap: There is something special about having found this and being able to watch it over time. Beats a book anyday! (Did I just say that?)

Bunnygirl: I do feel like a little kid that has been given a great present! I've always wanted to see this. Aren't monarchs just about everywhere that you might be able to see it sometime?LauraHinNJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08329387562570495570noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18784445.post-1158002492836757622006-09-11T14:21:00.000-05:002006-09-11T14:21:00.000-05:00Will you be following it all the way to Mexico for...Will you be following it all the way to Mexico for us?MojoManhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11283343683800473324noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18784445.post-1157980103037802112006-09-11T08:08:00.000-05:002006-09-11T08:08:00.000-05:00Looks like a beautiful piece of jade jewelry!Looks like a beautiful piece of jade jewelry!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18784445.post-1157974421254348042006-09-11T06:33:00.000-05:002006-09-11T06:33:00.000-05:00You're getting close! You might want to pick that stem with the chrysalis on it and bring it into the house in a large jar or container covered with breathable cloth. The butterfly will be very vulnerable when it first emerges and will need several hours to unfurl its wings to the point where it can fly. (We lost a monarch yesterday in the garden to one of the massive spiders that seem to materialize every September). But we did raise and release a round dozen monarchs this year!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18784445.post-1157943125849061692006-09-10T21:52:00.000-05:002006-09-10T21:52:00.000-05:00Is it me, of can you see the wings pressed against...Is it me, of can you see the wings pressed against the bottom of the chrysalis?Susan Gets Nativehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00216170589750418861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18784445.post-1157941832957061802006-09-10T21:30:00.000-05:002006-09-10T21:30:00.000-05:00We've got monarchs, and we've got chrysalises, but...We've got monarchs, and we've got chrysalises, but I haven't seen any monarch chrysalises.

Looking forward to updates.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18784445.post-1157941657765412092006-09-10T21:27:00.000-05:002006-09-10T21:27:00.000-05:00Oh, this is just so fun to watch. The chrysalis in this pic looks just like the one I remember from my book!

I've always wished I could see a monarch life cycle in person, but I've never lived in a town where that was possible.

Thanks for keeping us updated-- this is fun!Ann (bunnygirl)https://www.blogger.com/profile/04938134750150653386noreply@blogger.com
