9/28/06 Mid-week bunny fix

This is the sight that greeted me on Tuesday when I got in from work. The general mess with hay strewn about is normal, the collapsed hidey-box is not. It's been threatening to give way for a few weeks now and I've been on the lookout for a new box to replace it with. But I hadn't found one in time. This box was huge and once held 50 pounds of hay shipped across the country from Nebraska for the spoiled rabbits. I haven't ordered from that company in a while, so don't have another.
I didn't expect to find Boomer happily snoozing the afternoon away inside the busted box, but I should have known better. That bunny can nap!
I threw away the box and cleaned up and set out their bed and they snuggled inside it, as they do. But it just wasn't right... these bunnies need a box to *hide* in. None of the others have ever had a box, but I've always given one to the flemmies. They chew the doorways to their liking and shred a back entrance hole. Boomer especially loves the box and I have to rouse him morning and night to eat. He prefers his salads and his hay in bed. Lazy boy!
Before the night was over I had replaced it with the only box I could find that is almost big enough, but not nearly. Boomer seems happy to have a roof over his butt, if not his head.

You have some happy bunnies, there! So who do you use for hay these days, if not Oxbow?

I especially love the last shot, Laura. A good one for bringing smiles.

It's always nice to have a proper roof over one's head, Boomer.
Your buns are so funny.

I love that bunny butt in the box photo. His expression says "yeah, cheap housing is hard to find these days, but the food is good here."

My daughter started doing a junior volunteer program at our local Animal Humane Society. Last week when my husband got home from picking her up they were excited to tell me that there was a flemmie there! They said the bunny was HUGE!! Happily there was a hold sign on her cage and she was in the process of being adopted.

Bunnygirl: The *nice* hay I oder from American Pet Diner. Litterbox hay is bought locally, or from Sweet Meadow Farms in Mass. - Oxbow tends to be very variable in quality - do you notice that? They have the best sized boxes for the flemmies, though. ;-)

Lene: Yep, they make me smile. How could I resist such cuteness?

Silverlight: They love a box, even this tiny one that they have to squish into.

Laura: Boomer is such a love! He flirts, he lays on top of Cricket, he runs from the vacuum cleaner, and eats *Roman-style* reclining in his bed - such a treasure.

Naturewoman: They do make a good foot warmer when it's chilly!

Emily: Thanks - they love to snuggle. Your two are quite the pair also!

Lynne: Wow - does your daughter enjoy volunteering that way?

I get such a kick out of these big bunnies and people's reactions to them! Glad to hear that that one is to be adopted - often people are scared of the big ones, but they're such loves!

Orlando Bun: Hi! The flemmies don't shred the whole box, just the parts that hold it together! With this one I cut out the openings so thay they wouldn't have to (and I wouldn't have to clean up all the mess!)

What a lovely bunny post, especially that last photo! Our rabbit has been shredding boxes recently - we can hardly keep up!

Well, at least Boomer feels sheltered a little by his new box :) Reminds me of when Tink destroyed the Critter Castle!
