But nervousness quickly turned to doggy-glee and silliness.
There was lots of racing around and the inevitable sliding when trying to stop.
I'm not sure what you call this, but it looked like fun and less dangerous than the boating. I'd imagine their arms must get tired.
These two wandered at will on the ice and didn't get run over or cause any accidents
I went back today and saw some of the beautiful large iceboats. Many of the older ones are made of wood and are passed down in families. I'm just too lazy this eveining to download those pics from the camera. The ice at shore was getting soft by late this afternoon, but that didn't stop some fools with baby carriages (can you imagine!) from going for a stroll on the ice.
I also went today to a *Seal Walk* out at Sandy Hook, but that was a total bust; there was a huge turnout - must have been at least a hundred people - but no seals. I'll keep my eye out for them and hopefully will spot a few one of these days.

Laura, I would have loved to see this. You must have had a blast. Dogs iceskating! LOL! What fun. You have introduced a new sport to most of us. I've never seen this...
Stay warm.
did you see anyone fall?
The people doing the less dangerous activity? Looks like ice-kiting? No?
I like how dogs look all hunched up when they run crazy! I got to try out my new Yaktrax this weekend. They're great on smooth icy surfaces and keep me from walking like a granny!!
Lynne: We call that run that dogs do when they are excited the Tucked Butt Hyena Run.
Laura, people actually took their babies on the ice in strollers???? Excuse me, but what happened to natural selection when it comes to stupid people???
More great pictures! It looks like it was beautiful there today. How nice!
Baby carriages... on the ice??? Ack! Does make you wonder what people are thinking...
I love the old wooden boats. I see old wooden boats on the canal here. They just look so nice compared to today's boats. Walking on ice on a lake makes me nervous, but taking a baby carriage out there - argh.
This is the most enjoyable winter post! I love it, Laura. Reminds us that winter can be fun. Dogs tend to always make the best of any situation, yes?
Wind sailing? Ice Sailing? Down here Kite Sailing is all the rage. They start off from a little spit of beach that sticks out into the gulf of Mexico and off they go! Mostly airborne but skimming the water some, too. It takes incredible upper body strength since the kites are so massive and heavy.
The people doing the less dangerous activity? I don't think they bought all of the boat. They forgot the part you sit in.
This looks fun, but around here we have lots of snow on the iceand I don't think it would work here.
