Blueberry time

Waiting with the bees for the beach plum to bloom; blueberries will do in the meantime...

Blueberries are my favorite fruit.
Heaped in a scooped out cantelope half, with a bit of ice cream...heaven!

I sure hope the honeybees prove the dire predictions about them wrong.

As a kid, I would spend summers with my grandparents on Cape Cod. They had blueberry bushes in the back yard and I'd go out and pick them in the morning with Grandma and we'd put them on our corn flakes.

Good times. :-)

So when will they be ready? I'm on my way!

I'm loving the way my front yard buzzes with bees and hummingbirds. I can't wait to get my landscaping done so my backyard will buzz too!

I don't think I know these blooms - I've never been around a blueberry bush before it was fruiting. Ummmm . . blueberry muffins.

I like blueberry pie, myself.

Wow, I haven't been able to get my blueberry bushes to bloom like yours. So many flowers! I think our neighborhood rabbits are chewing on the branches, so the bushes are struggling to leaf out let alone bloom. Will you let the birds eat them? Or will you try to nab them for yourself?

Hi Heather - these aren't mine - I found them growing in the dunes at Sandy Hook - in fact - I'm seeing them everywhere this week!

Last weekend I was down in the Pine Barrens and saw Leatherleaf (I think anyway, looks pretty similar).

They want a lot of sun and probably like soil that isn't too rich. If I grew them I would surely let the birds have the berries!
