Wild geese

"There are voices which we hear in solitude, but they grow faint and inaudible as we enter into the world."
--Ralph Waldo Emerson

Is it Autumn for you yet? Have you heard the geese calling as they fly overhead in the night?

I have heard them, Laura. But I don't feel the season yet.

I have heard geese at night, and it gets dark earlier, but it still has not felt like fall, except for a few short interludes.

I felt super-Fall like today. The wind was blowing the leaves across the mew yard at RAPTOR, the geese were calling this evening....ahhh.
Reminds me of a line from "You've Got Mail":
"Ahh...Autumn. If I could, I would send you a bouquet of freshly-sharpened pencils."

I've been hearing them for a while now. Some are slow to leave for the winter. We have been getting pretty chillie temps but still have plenty of open water.

What a wonderful Emerson quotation! Thoreau wouldn't have been half as good without his buddy Emerson to borrow ideas from.

I've been hearing them both in the day and at night; I love their honking. Usually a few of them winter on the marsh, so I'm watching for them.

Oh, and I named you a "blogging star" on my blog; come by and look sometime.

Whenever we hear the geese, my daughter and I run outside to wave good-bye. We love looking at how the "V" changes as they are navigating the sky.

Definitely autumn here - most leaves off the trees now - especially vivid colors this year.
"Our" geese stay around all year - which we love but the guys in the city (30 min. away) are trying to have them chased out of town - good luck:)

Oh, yes we have heard the geese pass over. Sometimes I am even able to catch sight of of the them. Guess autumn is here for sure.

We've heard 'em here morning and night. It's 82 and humid like August here today. I'm kind of tired of the humidity I must say. Where is Fall?

I hear sandhills, but never geese.

The sky has been filled with strings of geese the past few days. I love their morning wake-up calls.

It's autumn bordering on winter here. Very early. It's lovely though.

There have been lots of geese- and other birds- flying south over by Lake Michigan. They take a path right over the zoo and often stop for a visit in the swan pond. We have five trumpeter cignets this year and I heard last week that they are being released into the wild in Iowa. The pinioned parents stay with us and hopefully do as well next year. In the meantime, I helped soap the viewing windows around the polar bears and ape pavilion last week for the safety of migrating birds.

Wonderful photo. And I love Luka, esp in the group photo. It's been fun hearing the puppy love grow around here.
