A rant revisited

Humor me and go back and read this post from last February. Remember that? It still cracks me up to read it, but I got myself into such a mess at work that I almost don't dare to bring it up again. A few coworkers who'd never previously had any interest in what I write here suddenly came out of the woodwork convinced that I was accusing them of being the source of my ire. I suppose there's some lesson for me in that, but mostly I think I learned a great deal about the character of particular people and how little interest I had in working with them any longer.

I'm thinking about this now because it occured to me today how happy I am to be working with a new group of people and in a new position. I took quite a leap into the darkness with this job and it's worked out okay and I'm finally feeling sure that I made the right choice. The job itself is far less glamorous than my old position (that's a laugh) but I'm seeing the benefit of surrounding myself with good, smart, professional, self-assured people. I'm also enjoying that none of them are too very interested in me or my life outside of the office - it's nice to be anonymous! Also wonderful is that we're all too busy for gossip or that chattiness that makes me nutty about women who work together. Oh and my new boss (who retired just last week) visited today and brought each one of us (20+ social workers and our small army of secretaries) a bouquet of roses as a thank you for sending her off into retirement in such a nice way.

Well, that's quite a thank you!

How refreshing for you to be able to work without the cattiness.

Change is what you make of it and obviously you made the best of it. I'm glad it's working out so well.

I'm glad you are happy in your new job. Some people think everything is about them. 'Not'

What a difference it makes when you enjoy your job and co-workers. And it sure is nice to have a definite line between work and home interests and activities.

Glad things are going well in the new job. I have been wondering since you haven't mentioned it.

Oh, Laura, that post took me back to my own grumpy days in my previous position. So glad we've both moved on to better things with better coworkers.

Laura, you're so right about working with and for people you respect and who are not petty; it's such a pleasure. It's nice to hear that you're happy in your job. I recently switched jobs as well and feel like you do. And, this post reminded me that when I start the blog I've been threatening to do, I will NOT write about work! LOL Continued good luck in your position!

Hi Somewhere .. I went back to Feb to re-read the "rant" you mentioned and I suppose I found it .. kind of mild! Glad the new is working out.

But I also found your post and picture of Mr. Bean(?) for Feb 21 and it was such a nice one .. our No.2 bunny Benson died just the other night and your post summed up our thoughts of him so well. Thanks!

I got a kick out of your February post. I'm glad things are better and will share this post with my niece who is herself embarking on a new job in a new company in a new city! Thanks.

Glad you're happy in your new position. A group of ladies can offer too much personal info, for sure.

Change is always good. Glad to hear you are enjoying it. Good decision, Laura. I'm sort of anonymous at my job, too. I like that.

By the way, a few months ago, my blog address leaked to co-workers and I knew exactly when it happened. I quickly deleted two posts about my job and modified one other... I won't be talking about my job in a derogatory way anymore. When I have something horrible to report, I have e-mail addresses... :o)

Oh Mary, I think we've probably all had that experience! I remember having a similar one, and whom did I email for advice but one LauraHinNJ! And Laura, of course you helped me. You're so awesome.
