Line 73a

Amount of line 72 you want refunded to you.

Are they kidding???

;-)

Nevermind... I don't want that money back. You just keep it.

Anything about this yearly ritual that makes you howl with laughter?

Oh, isn't it fun! Even living on Social Security and an infinitesimal pension, I have to pay them. There was a day when I actually earned money and got a refund.

Well yes. If you do happen to get social security benefits, there is a worksheet you fill out to see how much of your benefits you must pay tax on.

I have been a mathematician and also a procedure writer in past lives ... the logic of that form still escapes me! It reminds me of Alice in Wonderland.

I'd love to get a refund. I earn less money today than I ever have but instead of a refund, I have to pay MORE to these guys. Don't get me started....

Ritual is definitely the right word for the process at our house. My husband goes over all the information during the holidays and is ready to visit the accountant early. He insists on paying as soon as the accountant has the papers ready. No waiting until April.

What do you think you will buy with your big refund?

Several years ago we switched to TurboTax. My husband always did the calculations, taking several days. Now it is done in less than a half day. REALLY!
And we did get a refund--and bought a new set of bedroom furniture--first new one in 42 years--we were due, right?

I always laugh at that line, too. "How much do I want back? All of it, Uncle Sam!"

I got my refund yesterday, and already spent most of it - new camera gear arrives next week! Gotta love direct deposit and on-line payments.

Thanks for the new perspective - for some reason I always take taxes very seriously. I don't understand a thing they say and suspect they don't either. Doesn't change how much I have to pay :)

Ah...I miss refunds. Being married to a freelance writer who gets nothing withheld....Sigh.
