9/100

It's been forever since I posted a stranger photo, hasn't it?

; )

Back at the beginning of March I stumbled across a Civil War re-enactment that was happening in north Florida.

That's an interesting sub-culture, let me tell ya.

I wandered around for a pleasant couple of hours watching these men and women while they waited for the rain to stop so they could have their battle. I still can't get straight which color uniform belongs to which side. But I know who won the war!

Such a Yankee...

This man had one of those faces that the camera loves; I only wish he weren't so shy and would've looked at me...

This photo is #9 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at Flickr 100 Strangers or www.100Strangers.com

We Yankees wore the pretty navy blue uniforms! I've got a buddy who was a pretty serious reenactor. If you ever want to hear some stories, this guy's got tons. And he's a great storyteller.

Oh, and your man is a Rebel! The letter on his button means something but I couldn't tell you what. ;-)

He's lovely! The fact he isn't looking at you makes it a more interesting photo.

They are pretty serious about their hobby! Good picture .. he looks like it has been a long slog ...

they may have been taught to not look at the audience. or the camera. a detachment to keep them focused on their character and what they are doing.

Tony Horwitz wrote "Confederates in the Attic," and one of the chapters was about Civil War Re-enacters. Truly a sub-culture.

I agree with Beth that the man is Johnny Reb because of his gray uniform and his button. The button is a CSA button and the "I" indicates he is in the infantry.

He looks pretty darned clean shaven for a soldier. Guess he has a very sharp knife.

I love his gentle look. Nice photograph.

Nice photo. I kinda like that he's not looking straight at the camera. Re-enactors are an interesting bunch. Several meet each year at Monmouth Park to re-enact a Revolutionary War battle fought here in Freehold.
