Spring song

pink moon rises full
shadows cast through my window
say something of spring

"Tonight's full moon is known as the Pink Moon and also as the Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and the Fish Moon. Historically, Native Americans living in what is now the northern and eastern United States kept track of the seasons by giving a distinctive name to each full moon. This name was used to refer to the entire month in which the moon occurred. With some variations, the same moon names were used throughout the Algonquian tribes from New England to Lake Superior." - from The Old Farmer's Almanac

Sandy at Gardenpath wrote about the full moon and included a gorgeous composite image yestderday in this post which is what got me thinking about the moon and the many names we give it.

I went out to stare at the full moon tonight, and I felt like dancing naked under it.
How did she do that composite of the moon and the flowers? Is it Photoshop? I so need to get that.

Can't see the moon here because it's so cloudy and foggy.

She explains in the comments, Susan. She layered two photos together and made the top layer somewhat see-through. Neat, huh!

I liked the full moon/flower composition.-Interesting for me to see that the farmer's almanac has a website.-I used to read it many years ago.-It seemed like many of their predictions of weather came true.

It is too cloudy to see the moon here as well, but the information on the moon names is very interesting. Your haiku is lovely.

Playing with your macro again? I do like the haiku--even though I write a fair bit of poetry, I don't do much haiku. Too spare and too disciplined for me.

I did see the moon very pink on Saturday night. We had clouds so did not expect to see it at all. It came up and within a few minutes, slid under the clouds for good. I was cooking supper, but ran out and snapped a fast shot. Too fast-- the photo was very blurry!

Laura, did that moon feel mystical? It inspired you to write a great haiku.

I tried to get a photo of the moon last night, but we had some clouds. I haven't gotten to see my photos yet (battery died) but maybe I'll get something interesting.

I love those native american names for the moon.
